Lewis County is named in honor of Meriwether Lewis, of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Lewis County is home to Mt. Rainier National Park and it is also where the world’s tallest Douglas Fir grew in the town of Mineral. The giant tree reached 390 feet! Great natural beauty is abundant here in Lewis—and always has been. If you’re looking to relocate to Centralia, Big Horn, or Mineral, you might be interested to read the Daily Journal of Louisa Jackson from 1865. Her pages detail the daily life of a Lewis County resident, and focus on the family farm work (though it does provide a daily weather report as well)! Lewis County is full of surprises—from the bountiful Public Art throughout Centralia, to the sheer abundance of wildlife right outside your front door.
